How Much Would Your Allowance Be Worth Today?

Here's a fun calculator on Money.com: Allowance Inflation.

It looks like what my parents gave me in 1985 when I was 9 years old would be worth nearly double that amount in today's dollars. Wow!

Did you have to save part of your allowance as a kid? I did. It definitely was not fun back then...but it paid off. (Parents can be pretty smart sometimes!) We'll talk more that later this week.

My 50 cents in 1980 ballooned to a whopping $1.26. Quite the increase in terms of percentages, but still a small amount in your pocket. Plus, the price of a pack of Fruit Stripe has also increased.

I didn't save so much as hoard. I would collect it until I had enough to blow it all on something cool. Luckily, now I'm much better about saving and not blowing it all.
